Betsy Bailey

President and CEO

Betsy is an experienced Chief Executive Officer with a demonstrated history of working in the hospital and healthcare industry. She founded Health Information Associates (HIA) in 1992 with her father and has successfully grown HIA into one of the highest quality coding review and support services in the industry. Betsy brings her Health Information Administration degree and years of experience at large and small hospitals to HIA’s leadership. As a RHIA, Betsy understands clients’ changing needs. One could say she is the navigator of HIA’s family corporate culture that retains strong employees who take pride in their work.

Joel Shealy

Vice President of Business Development

Joel’s education and background in marketing to hospitals have made him an integral part of HIA’s growth over the years. The savvy he has shown for new business development, as well as his grasp of the industry, has led to strong management and innovation within the company. Joel is always cooking up new ways to improve service and delivery.

Angie Christen

Angie Christen

Vice President of Operations

Angie’s dedication to HIA’s success plays a key role in her leadership and management style. She holds a degree in Health Information Administration and has strong experience in medical records and quality assurance. As a RHIA, Angie’s background and flexible nature are invaluable to HIA’s operations, including managing HR issues, Coding Support Services, and nearly everything else under the sun.

Pat Maccariella-Hafey

Executive Director of Education

Patricia has over 35 years expertise in the areas of ICD-10-CM, CPT, DRG/APC validation Professional Fee E&M coding, Interventional Radiology, and Facility E&M coding. She is recognized across the industry as an expert in continuing education. Along with quality control, she goes the extra mile to keep our industry-leading programs perfectly tuned for seasoned staff, new recruits and, of course, our valued clients.

Executive Director of Review Services

Brett Randolph, RHIT, CDIP, CCS, AHIMA Approved ICD-10/PCS Trainer is Executive Director of Review Services at Health Information Associates. During his 25 years of HIM experience, Brett has worked at every level of the HIM Department including extensive experience as a Coder, Coding Manager, and Director. Very active in his local chapter, Brett has served as WVHIMA Past President and is the 2018 WVHIMA Distinguished Member.
