Selection of PDX on Delivery Records- The condition that prompted the admission or main circumstances of admission would be the PDX. The only time that the complication of delivery would be the PDX is if the patient was admitted for routine pregnancy and no delivery and then a complication occurs. This week’s coding tip is on the reporting of Chapter 20: External Causes of Morbidity (V00-Y99). These codes can often times be missed/left off when coding medical records. External cause of morbidity codes provide additional information such as how the injury occurred, the intent, the place it occurred and the status of the patient at the time of the injury.
